Do and observe!
Turn the hourglass by clicking the green "play" button and observe the “special sand” that flows. It is interesting that it does not spread on the bottom in the way that sand normally does.

The hourglass in front of you does not contain sand, but small iron dust. There is a magnet below the hourglass. When iron dust falls to the bottom of the hourglass, the magnet attracts and magnetises it. We say that it is magnetised - becomes a precious magnet itself. When new iron dust particles fall onto it, they also magnetise and stick to it. Turn the hourglass several times and watch the shapes that are created.
